The Taranaki Jazz Club is known as being among the best and probably the most affordable entertainment in town!
Club days are held Sundays from February to December, dates as per our What's On page, at The New Plymouth Club Gill Street, on the seward side and parallel with the main street, Devon Street. We engage only the very best of North Island and local and jazz talent.
If you don't already know beautiful Taranaki is known globally as the Oil & Gas capital of New Zealand. However, it is also home to a thriving cultural, sporting and horticultural community beneath our icon, the majestic Mt Taranaki.
Popular are Pukekura Park, annual Festival of the Lights, and the World of Music and Dance (WOMAD) which sees an influx of colourful international musicians and thousands of visitors each March.
Mt Taranaki is surrounded by renowned surfing beaches and lovely coastal villages and towns such as Opunake which hosts the Taranaki Art Award that attracts country-wide entries. There are many artists in Taranaki who draw their inspiration from living in this very special environment.
New Plymouth, Taranaki's only city, boasts the famous Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre contemporary art museum, boutique art galleries, the Coastal Walkway with Len Lye’s giant kinetic sculpture Wind Wand, the ground breaking, combined Puke Ariki Museum and Library, the indoor/outdoor Aquatic Centre and many other lifestyle and cultural activities.
Every November sees another influx of visitors for the famous Taranaki Garden Spectacular showcasing the fantastic gardens that abound throughout the province. These include the renowned Pukeiti Gardens & Cafe nestled into the side of the mountain. Visitors are treated to the finest plant specimens, especially the magnificent rhododendrons for which Pukeiti is most famous. Each and every Taranaki town has a unique identity and story to tell.
